It has been a busy couple of months for Ryan.. apart from ICP award.. Ryan had a 2 page aritcle written about him in the May 6th, Sunday New York Times, collaborated on a project for the CFDA awards and his much talked about Kate Moss W magazine fashion story came out in June 2007.. See below for more info!
Ryan McGinley, recipient of the aptly named Young Photographer Award, allowed his sweet naitivity to shine through in his acceptance speech. I was told if I pictured all of you naked it would make being up here easier,he joked. But if that were the case, I'd need to take a picture. Fortunately for him, the audience, which included William Klein (honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award), Glenda Bailey, Kim Vernon, Kelly and Calvin Klein, Mark Seliger, Isabeli Fontana, Lisa Airan, Sadie Frost, Tracey Moffatt.

Ryan McGinley’s Swarovski Award video, which featured the designs of
the womenswear, menswear and accessory nominees on naked, wan-looking
models, all of whom were clearly unfamiliar with either razor or
depilatory (let’s just say, there was plenty of old-school bush in the
house, and none of it from Texas)

I was ecstatic to finally pick up the new issue of W magazine
featuring Naomi Campbell's community service diaries (with an
accompanying spread shot by Steven Klein). The highlight of the issue
for me, strangely enough, is the shoot featuring Kate Moss in the
English countryside. Wearing furs, Kate frolicks through the ethereal
English countryside and is photographed by one of my favorite
photographers, Ryan McGinley.
While the clothes themselves serve as an accessory to the composition
(barely visible through fog, patchy smoke, and feathers) the shots are
gorgeous and I love them. It's strange that W
is featuring a wardrobe that consists predominantly of fur in a major
editorial shoot for Summer, but Kate wears little else, so we can
imagine at least that she's been topless all day and simply needed to
cover up when dusk crept in.
It's a relief to see a photo shoot that doesn't tread so closely to becoming a catalogue layout.
