A Matthias Vriens shoot recalls the early years of Elle

Smart!” This is the mission statement for Elle, Ms. Myers said, intended to encapsulate both its visual and editorial tone in the redesign, which is most dramatic in the injection into the 592-page issue of arresting work by young photographers like Tom Munro, Matthias Vriens, Doug Inglish and Todd Cole.”

This is an excerpt from the August 2nd article in the NYT... where 2 of our prominent fashion photographers are not only mentioned but are credited for contributing to the much talked about “Elle revamp”. It was inferred that Matthias Vriens colorful and playful editorial was channeling the early glory years of Elle magazine while Todd Cole’s paparazzi-parody fashion story (featuring Anna V as a dead ringer for any one of today’s starlets) tied in perfectly with their cover story of “Young Hollywood” and their effects on the fashion industry.
